Whey protein is the most popular supplement in the fitness industry. Protein in simple terms, feeds broken-down muscle units after exercise and rebuilds the muscle. The most important way to get the desired protein the body needs is through eating whole foods. Steak, chicken, dairy products and eggs are some of the most consumed whole foods people in the fitness industry consume. However, when it comes to desired goals, it can be difficult to consume enough whole foods to maintain and build muscle — this is where protein supplements come into play.
The questions then become — what protein supplements should be taken? How much? And when are the best times to consume them?
The three types of protein used in the fitness industry are whey concentrate, whey isolate, and whey hydrolyzed isolate. Each have different properties and uses.
Whey concentrate, which is derived from the liquid portion of milk separated from curd, contains the essential proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.
From the moment that we wake up we are needed in the kids’ room, the kitchen, the bathroom, and we haven't even been awake for 15 minutes! In the middle of the madness it is easy to lose focus of what our personal wants and needs are, even if it's to attempt a healthier eating lifestyle. This is why it is imperative that we prepare. There are several methods we can go about when it comes to clean/ healthy eating. People work differently so it’s unexpected for every woman to follow the same process. If you remember WHY you decided to change and be healthy in the first place you will be ok. Remember, great things take time. With this said some women like planning, others don’t. Next time you look in your pantry ask yourself if what you have is something you should have. For example, chips, donuts, candy, NO. Of course, these are ok in moderation but when you are busy and on the go AND your hungry I guarantee you will reach for these 3 times over 1. It’s just easier. If you truly have no idea what you are looking at then don’t worry, I’ll give you some ideas as to what you should or shouldn’t have. Now back to preparing. Preparing is essential!
Greetings, everyone! Being a wife, mother of two, (and a dog lol) I sometimes find it difficult to manage school, my kids, my marriage, and the house, but thankfully I do not work. I used to work full time, go train, and quite honestly everything was complete organized chaos. Regardless, being an at home mother can be equally if not even more stressful in my opinion. Amid everything going on around you as a mother and wife, you need to find time for yourself. Whether you are working full time or you are a stay at home mother; you need to be healthy, for your family to be healthy.
Without getting too scientific, muscle is built by tearing down the tissue (strength training) and then repairing and building the tissue with calories that we consume. The word “calorie” has gotten a bad rep to those trying to lose weight. Calories are actually a good thing!
There is an amount of calories our body burns at rest in a 24 hour period. It is called Basal Metabolic Rate or Resting Metabolic Rate (BMR). We don’t just burn calories when we move. There is energy required for the maintenance of normal body functions and homeostasis at rest. We burn calories during processes and functions such as digestion, muscle repair, cell regeneration, organ function and hormone production. This is where the statement the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest comes from. There are calculations to determine your RMR or BMR.
With the growth of social media and the lifting and fitness community you’ve probably heard about endless different styles of competitive fitness. Sports such as Bodybuilding, Crossfit, Olympic Lifting, Strongman, and Powerlifting are all the talk of the town with #fitsporation and the rapidly expanding social media fitness movement. More often than not they all get grouped together; however, each of these is a unique sport in and of itself. And possibly the most commonly mistaken or misrepresented is powerlifting. So what exactly is powerlifting? And more importantly, why should you care?

When this started I had no idea what it would become. Actually I didn't set out to create a clothing brand at all; I just wanted to create something that was true to me and represented what I was most passionate about, what drove me in life and in some way give back to help raise awareness for the less fortunate.
This month we asked Genna, our ambassador, to tell us a little bit about herself and why she decided to embrace a fitness journey.
"I first got into fitness as a runner as a way to blow of stress, but it quickly developed into something unhealthy to keep my weight artificially low. I battled with restrictive eating since my early teens, and that coupled with insane distance running led me to a very unhealthy start to college and a very serious wake up call."
