Today Is The Day!

Today Is The Day!

How many times did you promise yourself that tomorrow is THE DAY? Tomorrow you will start working out, you will stop making up excuses, you will eat healthy, call your parents… All these things you know you need to do, but you don’t because let’s be real: tomorrow never comes

You may think you can just do it tomorrow – but tomorrow is a myth because there is always a tomorrow. If you are not going to do it now, then you may never actually get around to doing it. Make the best of the present moment and get right to what you planned to do.

“There isn’t a single thing in this world that’s made better by starting tomorrow. Everything you care about, everything you are about, needs to begin today or it may never happen. If you don’t want to do it now, you clearly don't want it bad enough"

Truth is, we are all too familiar with the term procrastination. We fill our days with meaningless and superficial tasks that bring us no value, and then justify our procrastination by constant busyness. We procrastinate for different reasons, but one of them is our belief that tomorrow we will have more energy and desire to complete the task. In reality, tomorrow you will be as busy and as tired as you are today, so if anything you are doing yourself a favor by dealing with your stuff today.

So how do you stop putting your life on hold and actually start getting things done? Here are some useful tips to help you with that:

Break your tasks into small steps

Most of the time so many of us are procrastinating is because the task that we want to achieve seems so huge that we are better off promising ourselves we’ll do it tomorrow. For example, you may have been in the fitness industry for a while. You know the ins and outs of training and you’ve been playing with the idea of becoming a personal trainer and opening your own small gym. You may have been putting this off because you know this is going to be a lot of work and will take a lot of your time (that you do not have!) Start by breaking it down into small and achievable steps. To become a personal trainer, you need to get certified, so one of your first steps may be to purchase a study book or sign up for a course. Second step would be passing the exam, and so on. If you feel that even these steps are too hard to make, break it down further! Make it a habit to read 1-2 chapters a day and before you know it, you are done with the book and ready to pass your exam!

Create more deadlines

Having just one deadline may make you feel like you have a lot of time ahead of you to complete the task. Let’s say you gave yourself three months to study for your personal training exam. You then come home from work every night and feel like there is always tomorrow to open your book. And then three months down the road you are still not ready for your examination. To stop this cycle, schedule more deadlines for yourself. You can have weekly or even daily deadlines that will help you hit your goal in the time frame that you’ve decided upon.

Surround yourself with go-getters

Do you have that one friend who always seems to be on top of things? Chances are if you spend more time with them, you will also become more organized and get more things done.

“The simple but true fact of life is that you become like those with whom you closely associate - for the good and the bad.”

Choose your friends wisely. If you are surrounded by procrastinators, or by those who have no big goals for themselves, you will become just like them. This does not mean you need to cut off your social circles, but you do need to be mindful of whether your friends are inspiring you to achieve your dreams or simply supporting you in your laziness.

What separates outstanding people from others is not their ability to dream – it is their willingness to take today action today. If you want something, you have to make the first step today, and then continuously make more steps every day until you achieve your destination.  Let today be the day you give up who you've been for who you can become!

Time is valuable and every moment counts. What you did yesterday is why you are where you are at right now. What you do today will determine what will happen tomorrow. The time to secure your future is not tomorrow – it is now.

A particularly frustrating part of struggle is the ability that it has to stop us dead in our tracks IF we allow it. The potential embarrassment of failure freezes us. The possibility for rejection discourages us. The idea of disappointment makes us check out of the game.

Our world today is a convection of deception, constantly the bullshit is on the rise, and the truth, subsurface and disregarded. We must hold true and steady the course through the lies and contradictions. We have to hold the line between our own lives, and the world that tries to breach in.

Gratitude is something we could all benefit from. Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present.
