The secret to finishing strong is starting strong. How you start is like a jet loading fuel–if it is well-loaded, it will last longer on its mission, if not, it might be forced to abandon the mission and look for extra fuel to continue. If you do not want to come back empty-handed, then you have to start strong. What you need to do between starting strong and finishing strong is sustain your strength. Sometimes it is not very hard to start strong, however, what IS always hard is STAYING strong when your strength is depleted. |
How to Sustain Strength:
1. Keep Your Eyes on the Goal
You did not just start working out because you simply “felt like it.” There was something in your mind that propelled you to get yourself in shape physically and mentally. Keep your eyes on your “WHY” and take on those challenges with a positive mindset.
2. Hold Yourself Accountable
If you want to achieve your goals and you do not want to lose steam, you need to hold yourself accountable. For example, if you want to lose weight and stay fit, having your family/friends check in on you is a great way to stay on track. The best way to NOT finish a workout program is to go at it alone. Join a fitness club, a jogging group or register at a gym.
3.Refuse to Give Up
There are days you will feel like not moving a muscle– you will ache, you will be sore– but you still need to drag yourself along. When your strength begins to fail when you have not finished a particular number of reps, REFUSE TO GIVE UP. You can decide to ease up and take it easy, but you must not quit or fail to finish.
4.Fire Yourself up With Motivation
You need all the motivation you can get. Listen to words of motivation, read words of motivation and watch motivational video clips. Hang out with people who can infuse fire into your bones and help you reload after you have become emotionally depleted.
5.See Yourself as Indomitable
Before you start, you need to be sure that you can do it. You need to convince yourself that this is a challenge you will overcome. No matter how difficult it becomes, you need to still see yourself as the ultimate brute who doesn’t back down. It works like magic.
Final Thoughts
In your fitness and workout journey as well as in your personal life, make it a point of duty to give it your best at the start, learn to sustain strength– and never agree to finish less than strong.
