Dissident Spotlight: Troy Benn

April 24, 2017

This month we reached out to Troy Benn, our Sponsored Athlete, to share his motivation and fitness achievements with us.

What made you first get into fitness?

Never wanted to be average, always wanted to be a better version of myself from year to year.

What motivates you to show up every day?

The idea to be bigger better and stronger, than I was, than the guy next to me. To be anything but average!

What are your Health and fitness goals for the future?

I started competing in 2017 and with a recent major injury, Id like to see the stage again June 2018

What’s your favorite exercise?

Back, in general!!! Everything back!

What made you choose Dissident Gym Wear and why do you feel like you relate to the DISSIDENT Brand message?

The design initially caught my eye after I was asked to be an ambassador. Once I read about the company, and how they give back, and what Dissident stood for their creed… Who wouldn’t be inspired by that. Once I became part of the family, because for some of us from the beginning and that interact regularly, it is very much a family, it was daily motivation, me motivating others, and them motivating me. Right now I will be the one in need of motivation after this surgery. Watch the come back though!!!! Bigger and Badder

What is your favorite Dissident piece?

I own so many, its really hard to say, Probably the red tank D, however the bag and everything in the new brand is hot. I wear dissident every single day. T shirt, cut off, hoodie, shorts, pants. Like I said I have a lot so why not wear daily.

What's your proudest fitness achievement?

There are a few, first time I stepped on stage, for a bodybuilding comp, but equal to that, was when Gio asked me to be the first Sponored Athlete for Dissident. I will never forget that moment either

What is your advice to anyone looking to improve their health and fitness?

Slow and steady, this is a lifestyle not a 6 week program. Focus and daily grind is key. Even when its hard, it needs to be a daily, weekly thing. Consistency is probably the number 1 thing. And if you're struggling or unsure, ask!!!! Someone here knows the answers

What’s your favorite Quote?

Honestly, as of lately, is simply been Be FEARLESS, Be DISSIDENT

A particularly frustrating part of struggle is the ability that it has to stop us dead in our tracks IF we allow it. The potential embarrassment of failure freezes us. The possibility for rejection discourages us. The idea of disappointment makes us check out of the game.

Our world today is a convection of deception, constantly the bullshit is on the rise, and the truth, subsurface and disregarded. We must hold true and steady the course through the lies and contradictions. We have to hold the line between our own lives, and the world that tries to breach in.

Gratitude is something we could all benefit from. Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present.
