Dissident Spotlight: Nick Herbstreith

May 19, 2017

What made you first get into fitness?
What made me first get into fitness was the fact that I wasn't okay with the way I looked. I was 110lbs when I graduated high school and looked like a string bean. I wanted to make a change.

What motivates you to show up every day?
The second I started lifting weights I fell in love. It was definitely my passion that I hadn't discovered yet. Then i got into competing in NPC Men's Physique. Then I had a dream to be an IFBB Pro and nothing is gonna stop me from getting there. That's what keeps me going every day.

What are your health and fitness goals for the future?

Fitness will always be in my life one way or another. However I will take competing as far as I can till I am at the top and the best I can be. My next show is May 27th, its the California State Championship in Culver City, CA put on by muscle contest.

What’s your favorite exercise?

I don't really have a favorite exercise however my favorite body part to exercise is shoulders. I love the crazy pump I get and I love the burning feeling that doesn't go away even when I set the weights down.

What made you choose Dissident Gym Wear and why do you feel like you relate to the DISSIDENT Brand message?

The main reason I love Dissident Gym Wear is the whole outlook. It's all about improving yourself as a whole. Every ambassador is supportive of others and we really are one big Dissident family. I also love the fact that I am helping make a difference how a portion of every purchase goes to the Challenged athletes fund.

What is your favorite Dissident piece?

My favorite pieces from Dissident are definitely the stringers. I have never had such a comfortable and well fitting stringer in my life!

What's your proudest fitness achievement?

My proudest fitness achievement is going to be May 27th at my competition. This is the most prepped and best package I've ever brought and I have high hopes of doing very well.

What is your advice to anyone looking to improve their health and fitness?
My best piece of advice to give to others looking to improve their health and fitness is just get started. No matter what you are doing you are going to have haters. Find a reason, deep within yourself, of why you want to make a change. Only then will you be able to be consistent and stick with it. You have to truly want it.

What’s your favorite Quote?

"To achieve what others don't, you must do what others won't." This quote hits so close to home cause to take anything to an extreme level you are going to have to make sacrifices. Nothing worth it is ever easy

A particularly frustrating part of struggle is the ability that it has to stop us dead in our tracks IF we allow it. The potential embarrassment of failure freezes us. The possibility for rejection discourages us. The idea of disappointment makes us check out of the game.

Our world today is a convection of deception, constantly the bullshit is on the rise, and the truth, subsurface and disregarded. We must hold true and steady the course through the lies and contradictions. We have to hold the line between our own lives, and the world that tries to breach in.

Gratitude is something we could all benefit from. Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present.
