Shawn is our first Dissident featured in our DSDNT Spotlight. He has been with us since we started the company back in September. He's is a true embodiment of the Dissident values. He has lost over 120lbs and has come a very long way from the days where he was overweight and would barely get any activity in. He's an inspiration to many and has a fantastic attitude always going the extra mile. Support Shawn on his journey by following him on Instagram @titleist913.

------------------------

What made you first get into fitness?

Fitness for me began about 3 years ago. It was when I was at my heaviest (310lbs). My son was at the point where he was just starting to run around and be active. It wasn't until I could see the disappointment in his eyes that I couldn't keep up. I was huffing and puffing, taking breaks all the time because I just couldn't handle it. It was that very moment that I knew I had to make some changes in my life if I wanted to be around for him. Not only now but in the future.

What motivates you to show up every day?

There's so many factors that contribute to my dedication in this industry. Being able to motivate and inspire others has been a huge influence on why I do what I do. Knowing that anything is achievable if you're willing to put the work in. Surrounding yourself with likeminded individuals will always keep you in the right mindset.

What are your Health and fitness goals for the future?

My biggest goal that I've had my eye on since the beginning of my journey was to compete in my very first show. I'll be competing on November 19th in London, Ontario at the 2016 GNC AllMax Championships under the OPA (Ontario Physique Association)

What’s your favorite Exercise?

My favorite exercise would have to be on back day. Bent Over Barbell Rows have always been my go to exercise.

What’s your day job?

Front End Supervisor at Costco Wholesale.

What made you choose Dissident Gym Wear and why do you feel like you relate to the DISSIDENT Brand message?

Dissident Gym Wear has been a huge supporter throughout my journey. I chose them because I believe in what they believe in. Creating a movement not only in the gym but in everyday life. Believe in you, Believe in yourself and anything is obtainable. It's all about being passionate and dedicated in everything you do.

What’s your proudest fitness achievement?

My proudest fitness achievement is being able to lose 120lbs and create a healthier and happier lifestyle. Not only for myself but for others around me. It's made me more aware of the value of life and what we take for granted.

What is your advice to anyone looking to improve their health and fitness?

My best advice to anyone is to never give up. Anything is possible with the right amount of work and support. You have to believe in what you're doing and where you want to go. Having a vision, dreams, and goals will always keep you in the right state of mind. Times may get hard but that's when you need to trust the process.

Favorite Quote:

My favorite quote and has been since the day I started my journey was "Train Past The Pain"

Any unknown/hidden talents?

When I'm not in the gym or working out. I'm enjoying myself on the golf course; another hobby of mine that I've also been so passionate about.

Anything else we should know about you or you want to share with Team Dissident?

Keep the movement strong and let's show the world what we're all about. We're all in this together with similar goals. Support one another and let's continue to motivate and inspire others

A particularly frustrating part of struggle is the ability that it has to stop us dead in our tracks IF we allow it. The potential embarrassment of failure freezes us. The possibility for rejection discourages us. The idea of disappointment makes us check out of the game.

Our world today is a convection of deception, constantly the bullshit is on the rise, and the truth, subsurface and disregarded. We must hold true and steady the course through the lies and contradictions. We have to hold the line between our own lives, and the world that tries to breach in.

Gratitude is something we could all benefit from. Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present.
